Internet Trickster In Santa Monica Derails Gmail At Malibu Schools

Written by on May 4, 2020

Students and parents in Malibu public schools we’re thrown into even more chaos this weekend.

The e mail system being used by Malibu school students to communicate with teachers has been down since Saturday.

An enterprising student in Santa Monica found a hole in the G Suite software, a Google product used by the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District for students … teachers … staff and parents to communicate.

For 16 minutes after midnight Saturday morning, this kid sent a string of emails out to the entire school G Suite mail system.

The Gmail application within G Suite for education has been temporarily disabled.

Google Classroom, Google Drive, Google Applications and Extensions are still activated.

Homework was still due on schedule.

Meanwhile school superintendent Ben Drati says district officials are trying to come up with some sort of appropriate and meaningful graduation ceremonies.

School is over in the middle of June … and the superintendent issued a video statement last weekend.

NEWSCART 75880 DRATI

“I’m working with our high school principals who are evaluating some very creative ideas for their students to advance and graduate.

“We will also be discussing middle school and elementary promotion ideas in the coming weeks.”

Our principles are determined to make graduation a positive and memorable experience for our seniors under these challenging circumstances.”

Distance learning continues this week … without Gmail …
