Homeless Man Kills Man 30 Miles Up Coast
Finally this morning … a terrible story.
For the second time in recent months … a mentally ill homeless person has killed someone in or near Malibu.
Earlier this year … a man identified as homeless person stole a car and drove like a maniac on P C H.
A gardener taking out the trash near paradise Cove was run over and killed.
Wednesday night … just up the coast in Ventura … a homeless man randomly stabbed a man in a crowded Ventura restaurant to death … as the man’s 5-year-old daughter sat on his lap.
Witnesses had reported the transient was exhibiting threatening and bizarre behavior, but police determined he was not a threat.
The 35-year-old victim … Anthony Mele … and his wife were eating dinner with their daughter Wednesday at Aloha Steakhouse in Ventura … 30 miles up the coast from Malibu.
The girl was sitting on her father’s lap when Jackson walked up and stabbed Mele in the neck, prosecutors say.
The 49-year-old suspect is a once-convicted felon named Jamal Jackson, 49.
He faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of Anthony Mele, 35. He was being held in Ventura County jail on a $1.5-million bail.
The attack was at a beach-side restaurant.
We report on this as the city of Malibu considers resuming feeding homeless people … at a site next to the Malibu Library.
Of course … not all homeless people are mentally ill … and certainly nor deranged and murderous.
But some of them are.
And the City of Malibu and L A County are considering a plan to resume feeding homeless people next tot he Malibu Public Library.
