High Speed Sunday CHP Motorcycle Chases Tops 100 MPH At Zuma

CHP officers report writing dozens of tickets last weekend on Kanan-Dume Road … as they.
Exotic car drivers and motorcyclists from across Southern California … taking advantage of stay at home orders to turn local roads into race tracks.
CHP Sergeant Dave Kajiwara tells KBUU chases are frequent.
One on Sunday led to a mtorocycle being chased by a CHP cruiser at 100 miles an hour up Zuma Beach.

“It was Kanan and it was a motorcycle pursuit.
“A group of motorcycles racing down Kanan.
“They were doing 80 on Kanan.
“There were two CHP cars traded engage pursuit on one motorcycle.
“The pack actually blocked a second CHP car.
“So one CHP car was actually engaged in the pursuit.
“And that guy got on PCH and sped right up to a buck but we got them in the stop traffic right at Trancas.”
A buck equals 100 miles per hour.
The pack went the other way.
Kajiwara says extra shifts of CHP motorcycles are working the canyon roads … trying to keep the racing down.
Traffic on the canyon roads is heavy on weekends.

“Most of the people that I’ve encountered that I see are great…
“It’s the people that are not from Malibu that are not from the area.
“The over abundance … I’d say 90% of that traffic that I see on PCH in the canyons is probably not from the area.
“But those are the people we are dealing with those are the negative people.”
Extra CHP details are working local roads … mostly outside Malibu city limits … to touch to try to deal with the street racers.
