First 6 Burned Lots Cleared For Rebuilding

Today is day one twenty four after the fire.
And the city says the first six burned-out houses have been cleared for rebuilding … by Cal Recycles.
A total of 447 structures were destroyed within city limits.
Of those … 276 property owners have opted in … to have the state Cal Recycles program remove the debris.
All but 21 of those applications were accepted.
As for the opt-outs … those who choose to hire their own crews for demolition … 169 applied for those permits.
And all but 25 have been approved so far.
Local opt outs 169 requests 134 approved
But that leaves 49 non-responsive owners … landowners who have not indicated how or if they care how fire destroyed houses will be hauled iff.
City environmental services director Craig George says 49 properties owners have not responded one way or the other.

“49 properties that have either not opted in or opted out and we have not heard from them either way.
“The city is working on a program, both with the county and the state itself. to reach out and try to find these property owners.
“It’s a possibility we could even put these properties on the web site so if somebody recognizes the property, and a way to get in touch with these people, we would appreciate that.”
The deadline set by the county … to have properties cleared by private contractors … is Friday.
Only a few lots will meet that deadline … which has not been formally extended… but probably will be stretched.
And George says the city still wants those 49 homeowners to enroll in a program.
CGEORGE 222 12 SOME PROGRAM OR THE OTHER.
“We tried everything.
“We looked at the database, everything that we can to try to reach out to those people to make them aware of the March 15th deadline and try to get them enrolled in some program or the other.”
