Written by 991KBU on January 21, 2019
Two month after the Woolsey Fire generated a firestorm of criticism of Malibu City Hall … the city manager is proposing adding a staff member to handle fire safety.
This is certain to be a lightning rod … for more controversy over the city’s Public Safety Manager … Susan Duenas.
During the fire aftermath … charges were hurled that the city staff had refused to activate volunteer teams … or open emergency supply bins scattered about Malibu.
The Community Emergency Response Teams … or CERT members … denied this.
Now .. the city manager is recommending that a Fire Safety Liaison job position be approved by the city council.
Reva Feldman writes that this position will assist the Public Safety Manager to address community concerns regarding fire prevention, emergency preparedness and emergency response.
The job description includes a full range of highly complex staff assistance as well as administrative and analytical support to the Public Safety Manager.
The pay … up to 98 thousand dollars a year.
If you are counting … this will be city hall employee number 97.
That’s the number of full-time equivalent positions at City Hall right now.
