As we told you earlier … LA County Sheriff’s deputies plan special enforcement on Pacific Coast Highway today.
Sergeant Robert Hill tells KBUU News that his team is -not- looking at one particular set of offenders.
NEWSCART 77564 QQQ THAT’S WHERE WE’RE GOING.
“We are not out to target one group over the other, but where the pedestrians or the bicyclists themselves are doing the unsafe walking or biking, or the motorist are being dangerous around the bikes, that’s where we’re going.”
And Hill says there is equal blame for pedestrian car crashes … between drivers and pedestrians … in Malibu
NEWSCART 77565 QQQ ASSIST THE MOTORIST.
“Forty-six percent – almost half – of every pedestrian involved collision is the pedestrian themselves running across the street, walking across the street, unsafely.
“The other ones (are) pedestrian right of way, you know, the pedestrian walking across the roadway in the crosswalk as they should, and the motorist not paying attention to them in the crosswalk.”
Those figures include recent pedestrian fatalities … at night and believed to have involved homeless persons crossing the highway near grocery stores … in late night darkness.
