Malibu Residents Split On Chili Cookoff Ouster

Malibu residents seem to be somewhat of split opinions after hearing news that the Malibu Chili Cook-off has been ousted from its longtime home.
The Malibu Bay Company has informed the Kiwanis club that it no longer will be allowed to have the annual weekend carnival on Bay Company land … at the Civic Center.
Instead … the Malibu boys and girls club will run a community fair at the site … on Labor Day weekend.
A random sample of Malibu residents at the shopping center reacted … with one man saying … good riddance to the Chili Cookoff.
CHILI MOS :63 QQQ: AN END OF A TRADITION TOO.
PERSON 1, A MAN: “I would be all for it (leaving).
“I haven’t been to it for decades, I’ve been living here for 20 years.
“It’s a dust bowl, it attracts too many of the wrong people.
“Give it to Agoura Hills or Calabasas or somebody who would want it.
“I’d happy to see it go.”
PERSON 2, A WOMAN:
“I don’t want the festival to disappear, because we love going to it and thje kids love going on all the rides and all that stuff.
“But usually it’s super hot whenever they have that festival, and so we never want to eat chili, on like a 95 degree day.
“You know what I mean???.”
REPORTER:
“Sad to see the Chili Festival may bite the dust after 36 years?”
PERSON 3, A WOMAN:
“Absolutely!”
“That’s how we demarcate the and of our summer every year.
“It’s the highlight of their summer!”
PERSON 4, A MAN:
“They are both good organizations,
“One is being replaced by another that is also a good organization.
“I think in that context, I wish them the best of luck.”
REPORTER:
“But it means the end of a tradition, these guys have been doing this for 36 years?”
PERSON 4, A MAN:
“Well, you know, how old are you?”
REPORTER: “60.” [[[Actually, 61, see below.]]]
“Well, I’m 71, and some day we’re going to be the end of a tradition too.”
The Kiwanis club has put out a public message asking if anyone knows where he can have is chili cook off in Malibu this Labor Day.
The Boys and Girls Club so is it will have some announcements soon about what they plan to do this Labor Day at the big vacant lot in the Civic Center.
The city says it will take over ownership of the lot at about that time … meeting the city council have to come up with a policy soon about to community groups using its vacant land.
First up Will presumably be a lease from the city for the annual Christmas tree lot at point doom … which will now have the city as a landlord.
