Divorce talks continue between Malibu and the Santa Monica-based school district.
School district superintendent been Ben Drati said last night at the final financial discussions … just about wrapped up.
NEWSCART DRATI DIVORCE :20 QQQ:
“We had a meeting today with the city staff Malibu city staffing there and also the city manager myself my staff and legal counsel, to review the progress that we’ve made.
“We’ve made some good progress.
“Right now we’re trying to decide when we will have a presentation to the board.”
The Santa Monica school board members have endorsed splitting Santa Monica and Malibu into two separate districts … so long as lucrative tax revenues from Malibu continue to float to Santa Monica under some sort of deal.
The financial issues though have been the subject of negotiations for about nine months.
The city of Malibu has held off filing a formal divorce papers with the LA County education officials … in hopes for an amicable divorce with the Santa Monica school board.
A majority of the school board is up for reelection Tuesday … and all four of the incumbents support is separate Malibu school District.
The only person challenging the incumbents is a Santa Monica candidate named Ann Maggio Thanawalla.
She says she favors local control … but Maggio Thanawalla would not endorse a separate Malibu school District … in a KBUU interview.
