Sheriff Boss Says Crime In Malibu Is Up, But Not As Much As One Would Expect

Written by on August 21, 2018

More now from that public safety meeting in Malibu Canyon on Sunday.

Over 200 people … many from Malibu …attended.

The topic was the shootings in Malibu canyon.

But Lieutenant Jim Royal … who is in effect the deputy police chief of Malibu … broached the subject of petty crime along the coast.

Royal says he’s been in Malibu for a decade … but like locals has noticed a significant increase in traffic …. beach use … cars on PCH.

He says we should expect a corresponding increase in crime.

“Based on those numbers, there would obviously be a corresponding up-tick in things like cars being broken into, et cetera.

“In general I think we’ve done a pretty good job at keeping those fairly stable.

They are not going up hand in hand with the visiting population as you would expect.”

Royal also repeated that the city is providing enough funding … as requested … for sheriff’s deputies on patrol in Malibu.
