CPUC Sets Fire Seminars at Same Time In SF and Sacto, But Not So Cal

The California Public Utilities Commission has – incredibly – scheduled two important public reviews of electric safety rules for Malibu … at the same time … at the other end of the state.
Both start at 10 a-m Friday .
One in San Francisco … the other in Sacramento.
The San Francisco session is held by the CPUC Safety Enforcement Devision … which is required by law to hold hearings once a year on Southern California Edison’s wildfire prevention plan.
Those have never been held.
The first one was scheduled 10m days ago … for this Friday in San Francisco.
Then late yesterday … the CPUC told Malibu city officials that they were invited to a Friday workshop … in Sacramento.
This one … on the controversial PSPS power shutoff policies.
That is the policy that was quickly adopted in near secrecy last summer … giving power companies exclusive decision making power to decide when and it to kill electric circuits due to approaching windstorms.
No word from the CPUC on why citizen activists in Malibu were not invited to the PSPS workshop.
Formal objections to the PSPS program were filed by Zuma Beach FM Broadcasters … parent company of KBUU radio.
As a formal party to the matter … one might think it might be at least notified that this workshop was to be held.
Or that important state business was once again being undertaken secretly … without advance public notice … without even notifying parties to the action.
Why on earth the CPUC would again and again take actin on power cutoffs in secrecy … unknown.
And there is no explanation why the two overlapping and important workshops would be held at the same time … same day … in San Francisco and Sacramento.
We did get a reply from the commission spokeswoman … on why the Southern California Edison workshop is being held in San Francisco … instead of within Edison service territory … which is conveniently named Southern California.
Logistics … it seems the CPUC staff cannot get away from the San Francisco headquarters.
