Coastal Settles With Latigo Beach Condos Over Beach Access, Accuses Malibu Of Racism

The California Coastal Commission is going after the Tivoli Cove condos over coastal access at Latigo Beach … and is playing the race card.
At this month’s meeting in Long Beach …. the commission will consider a plea bargain with the condo owners at Tivoli Cove.
That development has been in violation of public access requirements since the passage of the Coastal Act in 1976.
The HOA members put in a required public stairway … but then put up signs and gates to use the Commission-required stairway as a private accessway.
In its report … the Coastal Commission staff played the race card … calling this a move by the City of Malibu … which is 84% Non-Hispanic White … as opposed to the population of LA County, which is only 26% Non-Hispanic White
The city of Malibu has nothing to do with the issue … but the coastal commission report says otherwise.

The condo association will build a required stairway, install public access signs, remove gates obstructing the public pathway, and remove the boulders and other debris that are blocking access on the beach.
The HOA is also promising to make up for hogging the public beach by putting in things to make the public feel welcome.
A public shower, public drinking fountain, two benches for public use, and two interpretive signs for the public.
