City Hall News: Beach Access, Setback Lines, Chili Cook Off On Agendas
Written by 991KBU on July 16, 2018
The Malibu city council next week will decide on a access way to the beach on PCH just west of Moonshadows restaurant.
The Mountain Recreation Conservation Authority … M R C A … proposes to remove a fence … and existing locked staircase … and construct a new pathway, fence, gate, and guardrail.
The proposal was approved once by the city council … but they asked that the staircase be moved 12 feet down the beach.
That prompted one resident to formally object … apparently because of the use of public buns.
City staff is recommending that the MRCA access way be approved.

And here’s a lesson in city permits: if your barn is right next to the property line … and therefore violates setback rules … don’t tear it down and build a new studio there … without permits.
That’s the hard lesson being learned by one homeowner on Big Rock Mesa … where the neighbors are complaining.
A homeowner on Big Rock Drive decided to tear out an old barn and build a studio without building permits.
Teh barn was buitl a kong time ago … and violated property setback rules.
City staff says that the grandfather exemption for those violations disappeared when the old barn was torn down … and the new studio can’t violate the rules.
The homeowner is asking the city council for a variance … city straff is recommendign against it.
The Malibu City Council will rule on the matter next week.

Plans for the Malibu chili cook off go before the city planning commission tonight.
The new operators of the carnival are the Malibu Boys and Girls Club … which has been granted the lease for the vacant lot by the Malibu Bay Company.
This comes after 36 years of Chili cook offs run by the Malibu Kiwanis club.
Carnival organizers this year are asking to be allowed to have concerts on a stage … but not late at night.
Music will wrap up at 9 o’clock Friday and Saturday nights … 6 o’clock on Sunday.
And the carnival rides will have to cut their music at 10 o’clock.
The city planning director says this year’s event adds additional parking lots.
A total of 591 parking spaces will be available at these four locations for event guests and participants, as between 200 to 300 vehicles at any given time are expected to bring attendees on each day of the event.
About 20 to 24 carnival rides and games, with 10 to 15 large rides … are planned.
And beer and wine will be sold at the event in booths.
