City Asks Edison WTF On Power Outage Plan – Council Power Over Pot Up In Smoke
Written by 991KBU on July 5, 2018
The City of Malibu is trying to find out from Southern California Edison just what the heck is going on … with a new plan to shut the electricity off to Malibu in severe fire weather.
The California Public Utilities Commission is set to vote on this next week …
The state says interested parties have been informed of this … but no one at Malibu City Hall knew anything about this until a reporter started asking them.
Malibu and other affected cities have not been informed of this rather drastic plan.
Edison officials have asked on late notice for a meeting with the city manager … but there has been no public discussion.
How will traffic lights work?
What about the schools?
Internet relays go dead when the power is out … so do nearly all phones.
How can the city warn residents of a disaster during a windstorm … if the power is out?
Those questions … not answered.

Malibu’s marijuana ordinance is about to be thrown out … in favor of one written by one of the two marijuana franchises in town.
And the new initiative would lock in the existing two pot franchises as the only marijuana stores or delivery operations in Malibu … essentially forever.
The initiative grew out of a request from some Malibu residents … too sick to drive to the pot stores … to have their medicine delivered to them.
Teh city council said no.
So now … their power to set the rules will likely be stripped.
The 99 High Tide Collective has paid for petitions for an initiative …. they have been submitted … and the measure is widely expected to pass.
The statewide initiative on legalizing marijuana passed with a 68 percent yes vote in Malibu.… On Monday the city council will have two choices:
Either refer the proposed initiative to voters directly … or send it to the city manager for evaluation before it goes on the ballot.
And it strips the city council of any power to make changes to marijuana laws in Malibu in the future.
The new initiative will make it illegal for Malibu residents to have marijuana sold or delivered to them by any person or company other than the two existing marijuana franchises.
If a third company wants to sell marijuana in Malibu … it would have to get a vote of the people to change the city ordinance.

Also Monday … the city council will discuss a ban on plastic wrapping for clothes … cleaned at dry cleaners.
City councilman Skylar Peak says the plastic is polluting … non recyclable … and should be banned.
