Car Peeled Open In Narrow Lanes

Written by on May 10, 2018

The narrow lanes on Pacific Coast Highway … at the Escondido Beach construction zone … claimed a car yesterday.

No one was injured.

The left side of a small sedan was opened up … peeled back like a sardine can … yesterday afternoon.

The woman … man and child riding inside were not injured …. but told KBUU News they were severely shaken.

We don’t have the official crash report … but it appears that the sedan had slowed for the construction zone … and was in the right lane …

AN SUV or pickup truck came up fast from behind .. in the left lane … and sideswiped the slower sedan.

All the metal on the left side of the smaller car was peeled off.

As we said … no injuries.

As KBUU news reported several months ago … and as obvious to any driver … the sudden 30 mile per hour speed zone and the narrow lanes are crashes waiting to happen.

The city’s Public Safety Commission complained about the lack of proper signs … and lack of enforcement … at its meeting last month.

As usual … no response.

We have a call in tiot Caltrans to ask why very small,,, substandard signs are allowed at the construction site.

Also … why the contractor is absent so often from the site.

For the past three days … there has been no apparent work done.
