Camping Above Malibu Decision Will Likely Be Delayed 1 Year By Coastal Commission
Written by 991KBU on May 1, 2020
The Coastal Commission will apparently push back its decision on allowing camping in the hills above Malibu.
At issue is a court decision … won by Ramirez Canyon residents … that said California Coastal Commission rules do not allow camping in environmentally-sensitive areas of the Santa Monica Mountains .. above Malibu.
The judge rejected a campground planned by Joe Edmiston and his Mountain Resource Conservation Authority for campground in ramirez Canyon above Paradise Cove.
Because the campground does not fit the rules … Edmiston wants to change the rules.
Is already convinced Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to modify the local coastal plan to allow campgrounds to be placed in environmentally sensitive areas.
But now the rules are being changed on how to change the rules.
Under coastal commission regulations … a decision is supposed to be reached within 90 days.
At its meeting this month … the commission will vote on delaying the decision for up to year.
The Commission staff is requesting a one year extension to the time limit in order to allow adequate time to review and analyze the LCP amendment … and to allow greater flexibility in scheduling.
So much for the rules.
