Calabasas Official Opines Malibu’s Plastics Ban Not For Them

Written by on May 10, 2018

Malibu wasn’t the first American city to ban plastic straws and bags … but it may be the most famous.

Other cities across the U-S are now considering  “Malibu ordinances.”

One of them … Calabasas … where the storm drains lead to Malibu Creek and Surfrider beach.

According to the Acorn newspaper … there is opposition brewing.

A woman named Martha Fritz is vice chair of the Calabasas environmental commission.

She is quoted in the newspaper as saying she is “curious if there might be a better way to prevent (straws) from getting into the stream and running down to the ocean”

She’s not sure what the best method for Calabasas to do that is … and says she does not like the government banning “individual items that affect people’s lifestyle choices.”

Martha Fritz … vice chair of the Calabasas environmental commission.
