Brown Clamps Down On OC Beach Access, As LA Reports Largest COVID New Case Total Yet

California Governor Gavin Newsom is ordering all Orange County beaches to be closed.
This .. after several smaller municipalities San Diego … Orange and Ventura Counties opened their beaches.
New cases of COVID-19 cases in L A County hit a new record …
That may be a coincidence … there is no direct connection between the thosuands of L A people who went to Ventura or Orange county beaches last weekend.
The governor apparently sees a connection.
He has sent out a memo to all police chiefs … in California … giving them the heads up that he will announce the statewide closure today.
This comes after tens of thousands people thronged the few open stretches of open seashore during a sweltering weekend … despite his stay-at-home order aimed to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
No public comment yet from the governor’s office on the memo … obtained by the Associated Press and L A Times.
But earlier this week … Newsom signaled his play.

“We cant see the images like we saw … particularly on Saturday in Newport Beach and elsewhere in the state of California and we’ve got to confront that.”
The governor yesterday said he is working with state parks … the Coastal Commission and the State Lands Commission … which owns the ocean.
“I can assure you that, that that clarity will come in a very short period of time” the governor said in his memo.
Orange County supervisor Don Wagner calls it an overreaction.
In a statement … quoted by the L A Times …he said.
“I fear that this overreaction from the state will undermine that cooperative attitude in our collective efforts to fight the disease best in the based best available medical information.”
One state representative in OC complains that “the TV angles were bad” and “made the beaches look more crowded than they really were.”
John Moorlach says “everyone did social distancing. [It] was real cooperative and very respectful. They (people) just wanted to get out and get some sun, which is really healthy.”
Los Angeles County reports the largest daily increase in COVID cases in the pandemic..
As of noon yesterday … 22 thousand 485 people have tested positive for the virus.
That’s up about 1 thousand cases …a record.
The official death toll stands at one thousand … but the actual death toll is likely much much higher … as people who die at home are not getting autopsies under most cases.
And with less than 1 percent of the population tested … the number of those who have been infected is likely far higher than the official count.
Officially … the number of confirmed COVID 19 cases in Malibu has gone up by 2 … to 30.
The number of confirmed cases in the Santa Monica Mountains … 13.
Agoura Hills 31.
Calabasas 35.
Pacific Palisades … 37.
Santa Monica … 157 cases now.
And in the nursing homes of Santa Monica and Pacific Palisades … 25 people have been killed by COVID-19.
The total number of death in California during the COVID-19 pandemic are more than 9% higher than historical averages, according to newly released federal statistics.
This suggests that the death toll could be hundreds or even thousands greater than what’s been attributed to the disease thus far.
The new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show roughly 4,500 additional deaths from all causes have occurred in 2020 over what would be expected from historical averages, according to an L-A Times analysis.
With the agency’s coronavirus death total for the state at 1,017 as of Monday.
But thoere are 3,500 more peoplke who died … suggests a broader implication on mortality attributable to the disease, experts say.
