Beach Bummer Bingo: No Parking, No Sand Or Surf, No Fireworks – SM & WeHo Will Fine Maskless Wonders

Written by on July 3, 2020

No fireworks.

No parking.

No beaches.

No gathering with friends.

What is clearly the suckiest Fourth of July ever is here.

Surf is up … we can hear the waves at the radio station this morning … and we’re two blocks inland.

And the beaches are closed.

At least … supposedly they are closed.

It remains to be seen how the county sheriff will enforce that one.

The County Public Health Order bans all public and private fireworks over the Fourth of July weekend.

There are no permitted firework displays in Malibu this year.

parking has been banned on public streets near beaches or beach accessways.

Thsi would include Borad beach … Wes

Pursuant to the County Public Health Order, gatherings of people outside of the same household are prohibited.

And in the middle of the pandemic … the City fo Malibu is opening its skateboard park to the public today.

Things that are not banned tomorrow …

Loud motorcycles.

Packs of bicyclists.

Car clubs showing off their illegal mufflers.

This should be an interesting weekend.

Santa Monica police will write you a 100 dollar ticket if they catch you in public without a face mask.

In West Hollywood … the sheriff’s deputies there will slap you with a 300 dollar fine.

And yes … those are the same sheriff’s deputies who act as malibu’s city police force.

No such order in malibu.

The West Hollywood mayor says that city is following Federal, State, and County guidance.

But they are making it a city ordinance … same story in Santa Monica.

No mandatory face masks in Malibu … however.

West Hollywood’s mayor says “there’s no shortage of creativity and innovation in West Hollywood.”
And he expects “to see people come up with some fabulous homemade cloth face coverings.

”Let’s put as much effort into making protective face coverings as we traditionally do into making our Halloween costumes each year … urged West Hollywood Mayor John D’Amico.

In Santa Monica, first time offenders will be charged $100 and the third offense will cost $500, the city said on Thursday in a media release.

The issue of enforcement has been an open question since Newsom announced the statewide mask mandate.

Some local governments and county-level law enforcement agencies said they would not enforce the requirement.

But the situation has drastically deteriorated in recent weeks.

Says L A Mayor Eric Garcetti:
“Everyone should be wearing your face covering. I’m not asking you; I’m telling you.”

Los Angeles businesses should refuse service to anyone refusing to wear a mask or adequate face covering amid the COVID-19 pandemic, says Mayor Eric Garcetti.

“If there’s no mask, there should be no service,”

As California’s COVID-19 numbers continue to tick upward at a concerning rate, the state is poised to launch a million-dollar, multimedia ad campaign urging the public to wear a mask. ——

The hospitals are filling up.

Out of 97 staffed intensive care beds for adults across Ventura County on Tuesday, only eight were unoccupied as COVID hospitalizations stay high.

The Ventura County Star reports that a record 32 patients with confirmed cases of the virus were receiving ICU hospital care Tuesday.

That is double what was once the norm for the region’s eight hospitals.

As many as 31 licensed intensive care beds that were unstaffed could be quickly made available if needed, said Steve Carroll, administrator of the Ventura County Emergency Medical Services Agency. Emergency plans designed for surges of COVID patients could provide even more beds, at least doubling the ICU capacity at one area hospital system.

That story reported by the Ventura County Star.
