LA Evicts Homeless Campers, Camper Population In Malibu Is Up 413%

A newspaper’s analysis of the recent homeless census has quantified what everyone in Malibu knows … there is a a huge increase in the number of people sleeping in their vehicles.
The Santa Monica Lookout newspaper went through the data.
In all, the number of homeless persons living in the 16 Westside communities jumped 21 percent increase.
And Malibu’s homeless population of hmeless skyrocketed by 413 percent — from 30 to 154.
The explosion in Malibu’s homeless population was due to persons living in vehicles — which rose from 11 in 2018 to 92 this year.
Overall on the westside … we saw a 20 percent rise in homelessness in 2019, with Venice’s homeless population surpassing 1,000, according to census figures released by the Los Angeles County Homeless Service Authority (LAHSA).
Venice had 1,128 homeless persons counted in January — up from 847 last year — topped the list of 16 Westside cities and communities analyzed by the Lookout, accounting for 37 percent of the area’s total homeless population.
But bnot all areas of the westside saw an increase in homeless people.
Some parts … within the city limits of Los Angeles … saw a drastic decrease.
In Pacific Palisades … the homeless population decreased from 107 in 2018 to 81 this year.
Brentwood also saw the number of homeless plummet … from 62 to 16.
Los Angeles does not allow homeless persons to park overnight near houses … schools or apartment buildings.
And yesterday … the L A city council renewed a controversial ordinance that allows LAPD top flush homeless people in campers or RVs out of residential neighborhoods.
And the census also shows an increase of one homeless person in Beverly Hills.
