City officials and Caltrans workers had a muddy mess on their hands yesterday …. when a hillside collapsed onto P C H at Zuma Beach.
Mud covered one of the westbound lanes …. about a quarter mile west of the Morning View Drive signal.
It looked like a broken water pipe up the hill.
No major traffic jam … but it took several hours to scoop up the dirt in the right lane.
Sweepers were still working to clean up the mess late in the day.

Malibu is now worth 17.7 billion dollars.
New data released by the L A County Assessors Office shows that the combined valuation of all 68 hundred 30 lots in the city … is 17 billion 719 million 544 thousand 11 dollars.
That’s a 4.7 percent increase over last year.
And it does not include the loss caused by th Woolsey Fire … a loss estimated at about 1 billion dollars or so.
Other data
There are 6,176 single family residences in Malibu.
191 income properties.
And 463 commercial properties.

L A County’s new sheriff was a lieutenant at the woman’s county jail during the time that women were subjected to disgusting and outrageous body searches.

The presence of people in California mountain areas turns mountain lions into veritable fraidy-cats and makes them run away.
But human voices may actually attract rats and mice … because they know people scare away animals that may eat them.
A U-C Santa Cruz study published this week says human voices strikes so much fear in bobcats, skunks and opossums that they change their behavior to avoid detection.
The U C Santa Cruz study was published Wednesday in the journal Ecology Letters.
It describes how humans create a “landscape of fear” among both large and small predators just by being around.
The researches placed cameras and loudspeakers at wild places in the mountains … and played either natural sounds or human voices.
Big critters scattered at the sound of human voices … but rats and mice were attracted.
