Caltrans Schedules Meeting On Proposed Malibu Seafood Stoplight

Should a traffic light be installed on Pacific Coast Highway at Malibu Seafood???
Caltrans says yes … but some Malibu people are not so sure.
Heavy pedestrian traffic crossing between the popular seafood shack and parking on one side of P C H … and the ocean on the other … has promoted the state to install the signal.
The adjacent P C H bridge over Corral Creek has sometimes filled with sand … and is not suitable at all times for pedestrian crossings.
Some Malibu voices have said that undercrossing should be maintained and promoted … instead of the traffic light installed.
And the criticize placing a stop light at the bottom of a hill.
Others say the traffic light might slow down traffic … some cars regularly hit 70 in that 50 miles an hour area.
The state agency owns and controls P C H … not the municipality.
Caltrans will host a community outreach meeting at Malibu City Hall a week from Tuesday to discuss its Pedestrian Signal Project.
Caltrans says the push to cross signal would increase safety for both pedestrians and motorists … where beachgoers commonly cross PCH.
Caltrans is nearing completion of another project to install an improved protective median down the middle of PCH between Latigo Canyon Rd and Puerco Canyon Road.
That median is supposed to deter motorists from making illegal U-turns on PCH.
Fat chance on that … we’ve already spotted cars making illegal U-turns there over the curb.
The outreach meeting will be Tuesday March 26th at Malibu City hall.
