This is Malibu’s Only Local Daily News … the   ((((  Tuesday  ))) edition … from Radio Malibu  …. F-M 99 point 1 K B U U. Good morning … I’m Hans Laetz reporting.

——

A man’s body was found yesterday … in a crevice wedged between P C H and the beach at Corral Beach.

A family in an R-V stopped … just about across the road from Malibu Seafood … at about midday.

They called 911 … the fire department was dispatched and pronounced the man dead.

Sheriff’s deputies say the person … apparently a man … was not a known homeless person in the area.

Late in the day … deputies said no foul play suspected.

——

Pacific Coast Highway was closed yesterday morning in Santa Monica …

Police there were dealing with a man who broke into a house … set it on fire … and then fled to the roof of a neighboring house.

All lanes of PCH heading towards Los Angeles were blocked off at the California Incline.

The Santa Monica Fire Department put out the fire.

Police talked the man down from the roof … then arrested him for burglary and arson.

The house sustained minimal damage.

The L A county fire department has scheduled a public presentation on its plan to clear brush in the local mountains with a prescribed burn.  Details: https://www.radiomalibu.net/big-rock-prescribed-burn-plans/

——

It’s been one year since the City of Malibu decided that the churches feeding the homeless should stop doing that … and that the feeding program should move to the courthouse complex next to the library.  That won’t happen for another six months.  Details: https://www.radiomalibu.net/homeless-feedings-resume-quietly/——

Today is day one twenty four after the fire.

A proposal to protect habitat for wildlife goes to the Ventura County Board of Supervisors Tuesday for approval.

The controversial plan will affect landowners in the Ventura County portion of Malibu … plus the Santa Monica Mountains.

It would prohibit fences … buildings and other projects in wildlife migration passages and near arroyos and creeks.

The proposal has been watered down from the first version … which  drew hundreds of people to a hearing before the Ventura County Planning Commission in late January.

But it would still impose a variety of new land-use rules to protect the passage of mountain lions, coyotes, bobcats and other animals in the urbanized county.

Protections given for buffers along rivers, streams and creeks was cut from 200 feet to 100.

The board’s vote will come after a public hearing that is scheduled for 1 p.m. today at the ventiura County board of Supervisors chambers … on Victoria Avenue at the 126 Freeway in Ventura.

This story is based on reporting in the Ventura County Star.

The L A county sheriff’s office is covering up data about arrests … making it financially impossible for news organizations to crack into computerized data about arrests.

That’s the conclusion of investigative reporters at K P C C  and the L-Aist web site.

They have been workign for months to find out if rich people are spending less time in the county jail than poor people … an issue with obvious racist and class issues.

State law allows a public agency to charge a fee … to cover staff time or other expenses necessary to produce public records.

It also says those fees should be reduced or waived for news reporters.

K P CC and the L A ist website made requests to the The Los Angeles County District Attorney and the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office …county sheriff and Los Angeles Police … LAPD.

LAPD produced the records and charged 60 dollars.

The District Attorney and the City Attorney each supplied their own massive datasets of prosecutions and outcomes free of charge.

The sheriff’s office … wanted to charge 34 hundred dollars.

That’s 34 hundred dollars for access to information owned by the public.

KPCC notes that a reputation for secrecy has long plagued the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department …

And the penchant for secrecy has increased under new sheriff Alex Villanueva … th e news agencies report.

Villanueva serves as the de facto police chief for the city of Malibu.
