America Unites Disagrees With KBUU Summary Of Their Motion

The head of America Unites disagrees with the way KBUU News characterized her group’s stand on the removal of PCB at Malibu High School.

Jennifer DeNicola says a correction is needed … because the radio station reported that her group wants the district to spend 5 million dollars to remove tiny amounts of PCB from buildings that are now scheduled to be torn down.

The district is under a federal court order to remove all PCB from the old classroom buildings by the end of next year.

The district points out that parents … employees and taxpayers decided instead to spend 195 million dollars in bonds to tear down those structures …. something that cannot happen that quickly.

The district wants the federal judge to give it more time … so it can put the 5 million dollars in remediation money to work tearing out the old structures.

DeNicola writes that it is not a matter of spending 5 million dollars on buildings that are going to be torn down.

She writes that the group opposes the district’s motion for a five-year extension … and she says “how the district chooses to comply with an order from 2016 is up to them.

“ They have choices” she writes.

“They can either remediate with money already set aside to do so or stop using the buildings.

She says more portables should be brought in to remove all kids from the old classrooms.

The radio station stands by its original story as accurate … written using the very words of the court motion filed by America Unites.
