Hazmat Checks Have Started – Look For Yellow Placards

The L.A. County Fire Department began sending hazmat inspection teams out yesterday.
LA County Fire is working alongside teams from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC).
The trams are assessing and removing household hazardous waste … from properties burned by the Woolsey Fire.
The county fire chief says assessing and removing hazardous waste from homes burned by the Woolsey Fire is an important first step towards reducing potential threats to public safety and health.
L.A. County Fire Department Chief Daryl L. Osby says remains of everyday products like paints, cleaners, batteries and pesticides are toxic after a fire.
The hazardous waste removal teams will be going door-to-door assessment … survey and collection of household hazardous waste at about 1,500 properties in L.A. County.
There is no cost to property owners.
Once cleared …. the teams will yellow tag the properties.
They will be posting yellow clearance placards on each property that have been cleared of hazardous waste.
