It comes to pass that Doctor Christine Blase Ford … was a former Malibu resident … according to the Pepperdine Graphic newspaper … as picked up by the Malibu Times.
Blase Ford did graduate work at Pepperdine … and lived and surfed in Malibu for most of the 1990s … before life took her to the Bay Area and a whole new chapter.
And them … a totally bizarre new chapter after that.

Summer is over … and the summer beach team report is in.
The city of Malibu hires extra sheriff’s deputies each year to handle the crush of millions of beach visitors.
This year … the deputies and their volunteer assistants wrote 975 hazardous driving tickets … plus 52 hundred 35 parking tickets.
And they wrote 14 hundred 36 tickets for drinking alcohol on the beach.
Only 7 smoking on the beach tickets … only 6 dogs on the beach tickets.
And 61 people were arrested … 4 of them for felonies.

Surf of 6 to 10 feet is possible on Los Angeles and Ventura County beaches as early as Saturday night or Sunday.
This high surf should peak Sunday night through Monday night, then will subside Tuesday.
Malibu’s south facing beaches will see a risk of parallel currents.
Safety procedures at Santa Monica Malibu schools are under review … after a woman tried to lure a child into her car at an elementary school in Santa Monica.

Superintendent Ben Drati has been meeting with parent groups at the 17 school campuses … and each school is drawing up an individual plan while working within an overarching framework.
The Santa Monica Daily Press newspaper reports that some parents in Santa Moncia are upset with tighter pickup and drop off procedures. at certain school sites.
A more thorough vetting of parents to be allowed into school sites is rankling some as welll. and reassuring others.
Roosevelt School recently a woman attempting to lure a child off campus, as well as homeless people walking into campus.
That school changed its pickup and drop-off procedure and parents can no longer walk into the schools unchecked every morning.
A parent that sided with the changes lambasted those who felt they were losing their community, saying those parents were “more concerned about social hour than for the safety of our kids.”
Drati says the district is talking with parents … teachers and sheriffs deputies at the Malibu schools as well.

The use of giant ocean fishing nets to catch swordfish … which also kill sea turtles, dolphins and other sea creatures … will become illegal in the ocean off California.
Governor Jerry Brown late last night signed a bill that will phase out drift gill nets.
The state will purchase the back nets and fishing permits from commercial fishermen.
The nets are giant nylon curtains that can stretch 1 mile long and extend 100 feet underwater — they sweep up anything in the water.
Swordfish, thresher shark and opah are caught and kept for sale.
But other animals … whales, dolphins, sea lions and sea turtles, fish and sharks ,,, are also caught.
Injured or dead … this so called “bycatch” are mostly thrown back overboard.
There are 20 commercial drift net boats left in California — down from 129 boats in 1994.
Alaska … Hawaii .. Washington and Oregon have already banned them.
And now … California.
The new law was authored by State Senator Ben Allen … who represents the eastern tip of Malibu … and Santa Monica.
