Malibu Will Be Able To Evade Metro Requirement For Pt Dume Parking Lot, City Says

Malibu will be able to wiggle out of a commitment the city made with Metro … to install a two-acre park and ride lot on vacant land on Point Dume.
That’s the word from a city council … anxious to put out a fire that started in a city managers report … published earlier this week.
That report said the city would be obligated to build the parking lot on Point Dume … in exchange for accepting 2 million dollars in Metro funding to help make some key land purchases.
Last night … city manager Reva Feldman explained how the Metro funding was necessary … as the city scraped together the nearly 43 million dollars it needed for the ambitious purchase of three commercial pieces of land.
Her written report had said the city would be obligated… to put park and ride lots on the land as a result of taking the Metro money.
Assistant city attorney Trevor Rusin last night … walked that back.

QQQQ: USED FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
“Those funds do have strings attached to them, that if those funds are used, they have to be used for transportation purposes.
“So, in terms of accepting those funds, there are some protections in there, that if you end up deciding on a project that is different than that, there would be some options potentially or returning the grant funds to be used for other purposes.”
City council members last night complained about news reports …. and rumors circulating in Malibu about the parking lot commitment were inaccurate.
But the plain language of the city manager’s memo said nothing about the city being able to get out of what being required to build the park lot.
