Sheriff Says New Malibu College Will Mean More Squad Cars In Malibu

Groundbreaking was held last Friday for the new Malibu branch of the Santa Monica College.
The campus will be finished in four years.
One wing of the building will be a sheriff’s substation … and it will be the first time that the City of Malibu has had a police station within city limits.
The old county substation was closed down in 1991.
L-A County sheriff Jim McDonnell tells KBUU News the new substation will make a difference in on the streets in Malibu.
NEWSCART 77828 MCDONNELL :35 QQQ: LOST HILLS SO FREQUENTLY.
“Yeah, I know that will be great for us, to be able to have the ability to have our deputies right here, in Malibu, so they don’t have that commute from Lost Hills to come to Malibu each and every day.
“That’s quite a trek to be able get here so …”
REPORTER: “what will it mean operationally, will it mean there will be more hours of deputies to patrol right here in Malibu?”
MCDONNELL: “It will mean that they are here, they will have a place to come and write reports, they can do the work that they need to to do and stay right here in the community, so they are readily available to be redeployed so they will not be making the trip to and from Lost Hills so frequently.
But the bigger question may be if Malibu needs to pay for more deputies patrol.
Social media are full of complaints about long response times … or unpatrolled highways … with deputies nowhere to be seen.
We asked McDonnell about how hard it is to find a deputy when you need one …. we’ll have his answer tomorrow … on the KBUU News.
