A very small earthquake struck just off western Malibu this morning.
The magnitude 2.8 earthquake bounced western Malibu at 9:17 this morning.
The epicenter … officially described as 8 miles west of the city.
Looking at the map .. It appears the epicenter was about 1 mile south of Point Sequit … at Leo Carrillo Beach.
Here at Trancas it felt like a garbage truck just put a big bin down on the street.

A very small natural gas leak at Point Dume Elementary School brought out the fire trucks late yesterday afternoon.
Hey work crew installing a new air conditioning system at the school cafeteria pierced a natural gas supply line.
The fire department was called … the immediate work site was evacuated … and as a precaution one science class got moved to the library.
Parents were asked to avoid Greyfox and pick up their kids on the east side of school yesterday.
The school officials say no students or staff were at any point endangered.

This reminder … the third test of the Malibu emergency alert phone system.
The city will be calling phones located … or registered … along Malibu Road from Amarillo Beach east to the Malibu Lagoon … as well as the Civic Center area and Serra Estates.
This is the third chunk of Malibu to be tested by the city as they see if their emergency phone dial-up system called Everbridge works properly.
The first test was a fail … when it became apparent that the entire city cannot be phoned at the same time.
Next Wednesday … the city will test eastern Malibu.
The first two tests seem to have gone well … according to city public safety director Susan Duenas.

Malibu resident Don Wildman has died at the age of 83.
Wildman … a resident of the Paradise Cove area … was called the fittest man in America a few years ago by Esquire magazine.
In that article … Wildman was described as looking like “Sean Connery, if Connery had borrowed the body of a U.S. Marine.”
In his seventies … Wildman competed in the Ironman Triathlon nine times … a three-thousand-mile bike race … the Aspen downhill ski race … and the New York City and Los Angeles marathons.
Wildman was the founder of the company that became Bally’s Total Fitness … according to a Los Angeles Times profile from 8 years ago.
Social media posts say that Don Wildman died in Malibu this week.
He was 83.
