Shark Fund Suggests $2,500 Per Kid – AMPS Town Hall At 7PM
Written by 991KBU on September 12, 2018
A cause for celebration … says the Shark Fund … as Malibu school fundraising splits away from Santa Monica.
This … as it starts its fundraising campaign to support local elementary … middle school and high school academic programs.
The Shark Fund has begin soliciting contributions from Malibu families … 25 hundred dollars is the suggested contribution per kid.
While that is not unusual … the loss of affiliation with the Santa Monica-Malibu school district is.
In her fundraising letter … Shark Fund president Gardia Fox notes that Malibu schools have already achieved autonomy and control over fundraising for our schools.
“We’re on our own – there is no more Santa Monica Malibu Education Foundation…” she says.
And that means money from Santa Monica fundraising efforts … parent money … that had been subsidizing Malibu schools will be cut off.
In past years … this money paid for arts teachers … teacher assistants … and for supplemental science technology engineering and math programs.
Next year … those programs will be funded by Malibu donations.
That is leading the Shark Fund to emphasize that all donations made to Malibu schools will be used only in Malibu Schools.
