Look Now – Malibu’s Civic Center About To Morph

Written by on September 7, 2018

The changing face of Malibu’s Civic Center … tops our news this morning.

Some 15 years after Legacy Park was built … the face of central Malibu is undergoing changes.

And they all seem to be coming together now.

First … the city took ownership yesterday of two important chunks of vacant land … plus a third at Point Dume.

The city closed escrow and took title yesterday of the land where the Chili Cookoff Carnival sets up … plus the triangle parcel at the corner of Webb Way and P C H.

Traffic lights are going up in the middle of that … signals will be installed this fall at the Webb Way / Civic Center Way / Stuart Ranch Road intersection.

They will be coordinated with the signal at P C H.

Next … construction will start at the Malibu campus of Santa Monica College.

That long-promised …. 25 million dollar facility will replace the old sheriff’s substation and onetime Malibu City Hall …. at the west end of the county Civic Center complex.

Groundbreaking for that is scheduled two weeks from today.

Civic Center Way is supposed to be rebuilt .. widened and spruced up …to the west of the new traffic signal at Webb Way … up the hill past the condos.

That will come this winter.

The new Whole Food Supermarket complex is nearing completion this winter.

And the city’s sewage treatment plant is up and running … a big party for that  in a few weeks.
