5 Candidates, 2 Seats, More Views From Candidates

More voices this morning from the first city council debate …. last Thursday.  All five candidates spoke for the first time in public.

Lance Simmens said his attention will be focussed on PCH.

“I think we can install bike lanes on Pacific Coast Highway, which will achieve the following.

“It will keep the bicycles within two lines, and it will keep the cars within another set of lines.”

Mikke Pierson says Pacific Coast Highway has changed … and he’s scared by what is happening with speeding traffic.

“The first thing I’m going to do, is I’m going to meet the people at Caltrans who are responsible for Malibu.

“I am going to get to know them, and I am going to get to know their process.

“And it’s not going to be easy.”

Jim Palmer says Malibu has plenty of land use rules …. but they are just not being enforced.

“We have rules in place, but these rules are not being enforced.

“If we just enforce the rules that we have, I am sure that we could solve a lot of these problems.

“One of them is evident on Pacific Coast Highway, in front of Nobu and Soho House.”

Karen Farrer says the biggest deciison will be … where to build parks.

“We have opportunities that we’ve never had before.

“And I actually get chills thinking about ti, because the pressure is not on the bluffs anymore, at least in my opinion it’s not.

“I would like to see more passive and active recreation activities for the community.”

Olivia Damavandi has water quality on her priority list.

“I’d like to support the idea that septic systems should be — if someone wants to sell their house, at the point of sale — the septic system should run perfectly.

“And I’d like to take that further, and have everyone have their septic system tested, at least once every 10 years.”

There essentially are two months before the election …. five candidates running for two open seats.
