In other Malibu news:

The L A county coroner confirms that a body found in a car off Kanan Dume Road north of Malibu was that of a young man from Pacoima.

Jose Martinez Olmos, age 24, was driving north on Kanan Road toward Agoura around noon Wednesday when he drove over an embankment near Tunnel No. 3.

No other vehicles involved in the crash.

The C H P says it is not clear what caused Olmos to veer off the road.

His car came to a halt 100 feet down the embankment.

He died at the scene from his injuries.

Members of the Malibu Search and Rescue Team, Los Angeles County Fire Department and L.A. County Sheriff’s Department aided the CHP in recovering the remains and the car.

Southern California Edison officials have asked the city of Malibu for 20 minutes of time at the city council meeting tonight … to formally present their plan to turn off electricity to the city n extreme Santa Ana windstorms.

And apparently … the city has said no.

The S C E request was -not- added to tonight’s city council agenda …. although the company might appear at the call to the public for a brief speech.

S C E is required to hold a community outreach meeting before mid-October … to explain its preemptive blackout plan.

In other cities .. Edison had used city council meetings to do this.

Malibu appears to be not playing ball.

——

On the agenda tonight … the city council will juggle money around to complete the purchase of three parcels of vacant land — zoned commercial — from the estate of the late Jerrold Perrenchio.

The purchase will require transferring 3 in Metro transportation dolalrs away from a proposed P C H safety project … to the vacant land purchase.

The city will call that money “park and ride” funding … although there is virtually zero demand for park and ride lots in Malibu.

Parking lots will be required to be built … at the land at the corner of P C H at Webb Way … and at the vacant lot on Pint Dume where the high school sells Christmas trees.

A third lot … the Chili Cook Off site .. will not have a parking lot requireent.

Cougars are moving into Malibu.

Realtor Rick Wallace snapped a shot of a large cougar … sauntering across his driveway at the top of the ridge above Malibu Park and Malibu High School last weekend.

And this week’s Pepperdine Graphic newspaper has a picture of a freshly dismembered deer … on the grass between two freshman dorms last week.

The newspaper says there have been 94 cougar sightings on the Pepperdine campus in the last year.

Welcome to school … kids.

——

In KBUU sports … the Malibu High football team has a 2 and 0 record on the year.

They beat Viewpoint High of Calabasas … 27-13 . Friday at Malibu…

Viewpoint scored early … but Malibu scored twice in the second quarter.

Then a touchdown n the third … and a touchdown in the fourth quarters.

The Malibu varsity football team has an away non-conference game @ Beverly Hills (CA) on Friday, August 31 @ 7p.

The Normans are 1 and 0 on the season so far…
