A gas tanker truck caught fire on the 105 freeway … just east of the 405.
Westbound lanes will be closed all day … two people were killed … a tanker truck burned.
The 105 west is going to be closed for hours … much of the morning.

In other Malibu news:
A synagogue in Bel Air has filed a lawsuit against the city and county of Los Angeles … blaming last year’s Skirball Fire on a homeless encampment that they sau should have been cleared.
The Los Angeles Times reports that the Leo Baeck Temple blames its fire damage on a cooking fire … that broke out at an encampment last December.
The flames burned along the 405 freeway … destroyed six homes and damaged a dozen others.
Multiple complaints had been filed about the encampment … ccording to the lawsuit and as reported by The Times.
But despite the dry brush and flammable vegetation … the city and county failed to inspect or warn the public about the dangerous condition.
That homeless camp fire in the Sepulveda Pass in L-A happened at the same time that a similar fire broke out at the Malibu Civic Center.
In fact … helicopters were diverted from the 405 freeway fire to the Malibu blaze … which was quickly put out.
The issue of homeless encampments sparking fires spread through the county.

In Sacramento … the plastic straw bill has advanced thru the legislature and is ready for the governor to decide if he will sign it.
It’s been watered down rather significantly.
Supporters say they have to start somewhere … and this is s small but possible start.
Rather than ban plastic straws … as done in Malibu and now many other cities … the proposed state law would simply make restaurants in California hand out plastic straws only on request.
And it would only affect dine in restaurants … not fast food drive-throughs or take-out places.
Billions of straws are used every year … and the plastic does not disintegrate ever.
Millions of them end up on beaches.

Finally this morning …
The Malibu Film Society scored a first last night.
It’s first showing of a first run movie … as it was playing in the North American movie houses.
Black Klansman was screened to nearly 300 people.
The audience was left stunned by the movie … from director Spike Lee.
The end of the movie … speechless … no words can describe.
But you can expect that Black Klansman will create a major discussion next week … as it opens to the general public.
