But the hotel was not turned down in its quest … to put in a swimming pool in its parking lot.

Other Malibu news for Tuesday, Aug. 21:
Coming to the Malibu area this fall: luxury buses to Las Vegas or Phoenix for as little as ten dollars a seat.
The european Flixbus is coming to Santa Monica.
From a stop at the Santa Monica Promenade … luxury bus coaches will be departing daily to Las Vegas … Phoenix … Tucson.
Coming soon … San Diego.
Every seat on a Flixbus has Wi-Fi, power outlets, onboard entertainment including movies, TV shows, audiobooks and video games.
And a restroom.
FlixBus began in Germany in 2013 and has expanded to 27 European countries.
Destinations available from Los Angeles include San Jose, San Francisco, Sacramento and San Diego.
Even adding in the Uber ride from Malibu … that could mean a trip to Las Vegas for less money than gas for a car.

In Sacramento, a plastic straw bill is advancing in the state Senate.
But it’s a pretty lame one … compared to the Malibu straw ban.
The proposed state law would not affect take out or fast food places … the source ofr the vast majority of plastic litter.
The California Senate bill would only affect dine-in restaurants … and it would not even ban straws there.
Rather … the proposed law would only allow polystyrene straws to be handed out to patrons who ask for them.
That weak “profile in courage” passed with democrats voting in favor … an Repiblicans against.
The measure, which goes back to the Assembly for concurrence in amendments, was introduced to address the environmental problems caused by plastic ending up in oceans and rivers.
One G-O-P state senator said the bill “almost looks silly” and said he thinks “the negative consequences [of straws] are a bit overstated.”
As of this year … there are nearly 7.5 million plastic straws lying around America’s beaches.
Polystyrene straws do not degrade … they stay around forever … and 25 percent of the fish caught in the ocean have plastic in them.
These are fish that we eat.

And … as of yesterday … surfing is now California’s official state sport.
Gov. Jerry Brown yesterday signed a law that enshrines surfing in the state’s government code.
“Nothing represents the California Dream better than surfing,” said the Torrance surfer/slash/Assemblyman who authored the bill … Al Muratsuchi.
He told the L-A Times … quote … “I’m stoked.”
