  •   = Residents are not very happy … they didn’t learn much new at Sunday’s Malibu Canyon murder briefing.
  • = 9 reports of “shots fired” in the canyon after the murder … but deputies say they have no evidence of additional gunshots actually fired.
  • = Some of those reports were traced to backfiring cars or blown up transformers. But not all.
  • = Puerco Canyon camping came up … not much happy news on that.
  • = The Malibu Beach Inn plan to straddle P C H will cause a traffic jam … says the city … it goes up for a vote tonight.

Officials from five police agencies that patrol Malibu Canyon were on a stage … several hundred people politely listened …. in the heart of the Santa Monica Mountains yesterday.

It was a  meeting to share information on the murder of a tourist last June 22 …

And at that meeting, the sheriff’s office declined to add any of the nine additional shooting reports to the list of three shootings, in 2017 and June of this year.

Malibu residents may remember the gigantic traffic jams last May … then the Malibu beach Inn started constructing a traffic light to serve its proposed valet parking lot plan.

The city blew it … on any chance to convince Caltrans not to put int he light.

In other Malibu news:

Authorities are searching for a Granada Hills man who was last seen in the Topanga area of the Santa Monica Mountains Aug. 10, officials said Wednesday.

Matthew Weaver was last seen at the Rosas Overlook … where he apparently had driven his vehicle.

Hikers said they saw a man who was stuck in the area in his vehicle and they alerted authorities.

Weaver, however, was not found in the area after a search.

James Weaver, the missing man’s uncle, told KTLA News his nephew must have gotten stuck after driving out to the overlook and “has vanished.”

Nine members of the Malibu Lost Hills sheriffs station were honored over the weekend in Sacramento.

Eight of those … are members of the Malibu Search and Rescue team.

David Katz … Jack Garden and Thad Woodward received Medals of Valor.
Sergeant Tui Wright and deputy Kevin Augarten were named Reserve Coordinators of the Year

Search and Rescue Member of the Year …. Stephen Marshall.

And distinguished service awards were given to Daniel Farrell and Mark Stevenson..…and posthumously to Jacob Castroll.

At the same time … other Malibu Search And Rescue team members were at work … after a car went over a cliff on Malibu Canyon Road Saturday.

The car went through a rock barrier and guard rail at a scenic overlook in the heart of the canyon….

No word if it was deliberate.

Raul Antonio Aguirre, 45, of Van Nuys, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed for four hours.

Work was continuing Saturday at Malibu High.

But that is just moving non contaminated earth around … says district facilities manager Carey Upton.

All the dirt that had trace readings of PCB in it was trucked off by Friday.

district officials say it was a minute amount  … but better to remove every last trace …

teachers report back for duty tomorrow.
