An investigation has been opened into how LA County Sheriff’s deputies handled the discovery of a badly injured Malibu man … found wandering in Malibu.
Terry Stafford had attended a fourth of July party at Malibu Cove colony … near Escondido Beach …
His wife was unable to reach him on the phone the next day … and friends actually searched along Pacific Coast Highway to look for the 76 year old man … a longtime Malibu artist.
A day later he was located as an unidentified patient the UCLA medical center … with a severe head wounds.
He was placed in a medically induced coma … and faces a lengthy convalescence.
It turns out that Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies had found Stafford somewhere in Malibu early in the morning of July 5th.
They took him and dropped him off at the Malibu labor exchange … the civic center facility for day workers to find work.
At about 1030 that morning … people at the labor exchange discovered him and called paramedics.
Outside investigators are now reviewing why deputies acted this way …
Was Stafford exhibiting signs of injury when the deputies found him???
Did they act properly by not calling for medical help???
Why did they drop him off at the labor exchange???
Sheriff’s Lieutenant Jim Royal confirms that Stafford was transported by deputies at one point.
Royakl tells KBUU News that the entire timeline … including the deputy transport … is being thoroughly and transparently investigated.
And they are are in contact with his family and friends.
