SM Scooter Crackdown Results: Zero Tickets, Zero Impounds

Written by on July 24, 2018

Turns out that big crackdown on electric scooters on the bike path in Santa Monica last week was a giant photo op … and not much more.

The Santa Monica Daily Press newspaper followed up … and found out that the highly visible effort to get electric scooters off the beach yielded zero tickets and zero impounded scooters,.

With the TV cameras invited … Santa Monica police stopped about 900 scooter riders last weekend.

300 scooters were tossed into the back of a truck.

Great video.

Turns out … the rental electric scooters were simply driven over to the Santa Monica city Yard.

That’s where the rental companies … Bird and Lime … we’re waiting to pick them up for free.

That’s despite the $60 impound fee that was approved by the city council.

The city police have been writing tickets for

riding  the scooters while not wearing a helmet .

The fine there is $190.
