Southern California Edison had a big hurry-up meeting … yesterday … with City of Malibu officials.
The power company has already developed a plan to turn off the power to Malibu … with two days advance notice if possible … when strong Santa Ana winds arrive.
Remember … this is the blackout plan that no one in Malibu city hall had been informed of until KBUU News began asking questions.
Councilman Skylar Peak brought it up at the city council meeting last night.

“They basically have been granted the abiilty to shut off our power in term sof when there are Red Flag warnings.
“And that is of great concern to our council and I imagine to anyone who lives in our city.”
The plan has been in the works for a year … apparently … behind closed doors.
But no one told anyone in Malibu until yesterday. … and the plan goes before the California Public Utilities Commission on Thursday.
City manager Reva Feldman last night said the meeting with Edison did not go well.
NEWSCART 77633 FELDMAN POWER :26 QQQ: REQUIRE THE POWER
“Staff and I expressed .. many many times … our … tsk … displeasure with this proposal, that in a community like Malibu.
That we feel that of all the times that we actuallty we need the power … it’s during emergency situations.
And that out ability to notify residents and get residents out saafely …. and get our emergency responders through critical area … is compromised with the loss of power.he power.
The state PUC is poised to approve the power off during windstorms plan in its meeting in San Francisco on Thursday …. without having held any public hearings …. or serving any meaningful public notice.
