SC Edison Engineers Will Examine Cracked Pole

Southern California Edison says its pole safety engineers will check a brand new power pole … which was installed with a visible crack penetrating through the pole.
A company spokesman said Friday that the pole in question … on Morning View Drive at Phillip Avenue … will be reviewed.
The pole was installed last Wednesday .. to replace on overloaded 50 year pole at the corner.
It supports thousands of pounds of weight in an area where 85 mile an hour Santa Ana winds occur.
More than one passerby noted that the new pole had a crack that splintered the bottom end of the pole … nearly in half.
Malibu’s city manager has asked Edison to assure the city that this pole in particular meets legal standards.
In the past … Edison pole safety officials have testified that the only sure way to determine the internal strength of a pole is to remove it and slice it.
