Written by on June 8, 2018

The National Park Service will be using volunteers to conduct surveys of trail users in the Santa Monica Mountains in one week.
And local residents are sounding the alarms … that the surveys may be used to add fire pits … barbecues and camping areas in the local mountains.

The Nationa;Park Service does a survey every decade or so to see how it is meeting recreational needs.

On Saturday the 16th … volunteers will be at 45 trailheads in the Santa Monica Mountains … including several in Malibu.

Several of the questions they will be asking … are raising concerns on social media.

They asked if barbecues and camping should be added to the national Park and state park lands above Malibu.

The Fire hazard from that has Malibu residents concerned.

Some are urging that Malibu residents make it a point to go hiking on Saturday … to take the survey.

The surveys will be taken a week from tomorrow.
