Dozens of Malibu voters found themselves tossed off the voter rolls yesterday … in the primary election.
Some 118,000-plus voters in Los Angeles County were dropped from the rolls … by of all things … a printing error.
We talked to one such voter …. Veronica Brady. .. at the Point Dume Elementary School.
VOTER VERONICA BRADY :32 QQQ CHANGE IN YOUR VOTING POSITION.
“You know the whole thing is upsetting because we are in such — in my opinion — unusual times, when it comes to voting and our ability to track our votes and where they go and whose counting them and who is inspiring them.
“I’m not alarmed — everybody here is doing a good job.
“They’re going to this process in a way that I understand is correct.
“But it’s nonetheless nothing you’ll ever want to see, that there is some change in your voting position.”
Christopher Boyce is a volunteer pollworker on Point Dume.
We eavesdropped as he explained the process to one voter … who found his name was missing.
VOTER BOYCE AND PROCESS :22 QQQ BALLOT WAS COUNTED.
“And now, we are going to take your ballot in the sleeve, put it in the provisional (ballot) envelope,
And now I am going to lick it … and seal it … isn’t that great?
“It’s delicious …
“I’m going to do this, I’m going to tear this off [[[RIPPING SOUND]]]
“So, you got a receipt, and you can call to see if that particular ballot was counted. “
That particular vote … like 118 thousand others … will have to be hand checked against voter registration rolls … before it is added to the 100 percent of precincts counted total … from overnight.
Voters were unhappy.
Voters like Greg Brock .. who says he hopes his vote will be counted,.
VOTER BROCK QQQQ WAIT UNTIL ALL THAT’S DONE.
“it’s surprising, you know?
“You are supposed to show up, and then vote.
“I specifically got off of the Mail in list because I wasn’t receiving it, and then I would have had to vote provisionally at that point.
“So I got off of it too elections ago, and this is the first problem I have had
REPORTER: “So it means that your votes are not going to be counted tonight
“Does that make a difference to you?
BROCK: “Yeah.
“I am with a lot of people so I can’t imagine that they are going to be able to blow that off and just dismiss that vote. I think they are going to have to wait for results until all that is done.”
Those final results will be announced in weeks.
