Congress Dumps Malibu Effort To Curb Jet Noise

The U-S House of Representatives has rejected a local congresswoman’s attempt to deal with jet noise in the Santa Monica Mountains region.
Representative Julia Brownley represents the Ventura County section of Malibu.
She sits on a House subcommittee that oversees the Federal Aviation Administration … the FAA.
Areas as diverse as eastern Malibu … Point Dume … Thousand oaks … la Jolla and downtown Phoenix have been hit hard by a new FAA Computer system that reroutes Jets to the most efficient route … from a fuel and time standpoint.
In southern California … Jets are being lined up on precise routes that overfly the same areas … again and again and again.
The Congresswoman had attempted to require the FAA to study the noise impacts … to measure actual noise levels in communities along flight paths, including areas of higher elevation like the Santa Monica Mountains.
The agency would be required to issue a public report on actual noise measurements on the ground and steps it plans to take to reduce those levels.
The House Rules Committee, blocked Brownley’s additions from advancing.
No surprise there … the Congress is controlled by Republicans … Brownley is a Democrat from California.
Brownlee says and we quote…
“Unfortunately, House Republicans refused to allow these amendments to proceed to a vote.
“While I am disappointed in their decision, I will continue my work with the Quiet Skies Caucus so that my constituents’ concerns are heard.”
