5:30 Tonight – Board To Decide On Cabrillo, Dume, Malibu High Options

Written by on May 3, 2018

5:30 tonight … the Santa Monica Malibu school board will look at what to do with the mess at Malibu High School.

The district is in the middle of a 77 million dollar improvement project at the high school … new buildings are being built … but it turns out the old buildings are dysfunctional and have PCB in them.

The district staff says it wants to know whether to spend good money after bad.

The school board is being urged by its only Malibu member … Craig Foster … to stop spending money on patchwork repairs and instead look into building entirely new campus next to the buildings under construction.

That would take money … and the school district is in the middle of a divorce.

And like all divorces … the question of what to do with the children is a big one.

Moving Juan Cabrillo elementary school kids to move in on the point doom campus has emerged as a leading possibility.

That would make room for construction at Malibu high … and eventual conversion of the Cabrillo campus into a middle school.

The meeting is at 5:30 tonight at Malibu City Hall.
