Malibu Creek Threatens Adamson House Lawn
Written by 991KBU on April 26, 2018
Malibu Creek is changing course … at its ocean outfall.
The grassy lawn used for weddings at the Adamson House State Park … in danger of washing away … as the creek is meandering.
Trees have already been lost.
The breach of the lagoon … moving closer to Malibu Pier … has meant the loss of a key lifeguard lookout tower at the beach.
Not to mention … the waves at the world heritage center surfing points … on Surfrider Beach … have been altered.
A group of Malibu surfers is mounting a low key but urgent effort …. to get government agencies to do something.
They propose moving a little bit of sand away from the berm at the southwestern end of the lagoon …
One of them … Josh Farberow … and he says this is not a big engineering project.

“No, it’s a very simple project.
What we are proposing is two phases.
One would be drafting sand from the Third Point area, which is to the west of where it is currently beaching.
“That would be donee with all environmental good practices in place.
“It would be done after the bird nesting season.
“Basically it would be to move a small amount of sand from up there to reinforce the front of the Adamson House.”
Surfer Josh Farberow says phase two would be some rocks to prevent the creek from meandering down the beach towards the pier … which is what it is doing now.
There is a lot of bad blood at Malibu Lagoon.
California State Parks and other agencies got burned … when some Malibu people roasted them over their rehabilitation of the Malibu lagoon.
Personal attacks … from some of the people who were vehemently opposed to the restoration of the lagoon.
That may be why state agencies have not taken action to prevent the creek from moving towards the Adamson House.
Farberow says he hopes the surfing community … and Malibu as a whole … will get together and heal … and get behind what he says is a simple … and final step … in fixing the lagoon … and Surfrider Beach.
