A Pepperdine University professor had an up close and personal encounter with a mountain lion this week.
Professor Robert Shearer was walking his dog, Maisie, after dinner outside his condo on the upper campus.
It had been drizzling rain … visibility was poor . according to the account in the Pepperdine Graphic student newspaper.
The professor says “all of a sudden, silently but very quickly, the mountain lion shows up right next to” him.
Shearer said the cougar was nose to nose with Maisie the dog … who began ferociously barking at the mountain lion.
Good dog.
The cat ran off.
Pepperdine officials say there have been nine mountain lion sightings between March 8 and March 21.
Wildlife rangers and researchers say that’s normal mountain lion behavior.
Professor Robert Shearer doesn’t buy it.
He tells the Pepperdine Graphic that he’s worried … that the mountain lion who approached him and his dog was -not- exhibiting normal mountain lion behavior.
