For decades … Gladstones For Fish restaurant has been a landmark on P C H … known for terrible food and a throng of tourists.
Soon … no more.
L-A’s Board of Supervisors today is scheduled to vote on a plan to evict Gladstone’s from its county owned primo ocean front spot at the foot of Sunset.
After asking for competitive proposals from restaurant teams … the county has chosen a proposal with an impressive pedigree.
The new restaurant will be designed by architect Frank Gehry … and operated by chef Wolfgang Puck.
The company’s management team has 35 years of experience operating innovative and profitable restaurants … county officials say.
It’s a huge project … the developer proposes casual dining … a roof top bar … a fine dining room … private dining rooms …
Even concession outlets housed in smaller independent structures … located along the Pacific Coast Highway… offer ice cream, sundries, grab-and-go food and beverages, as well as a bar and public restrooms.
Also … a bocce ball court and chess tables … as well as a monument to memorialize the Gladstone’s restaurant’s history.
The end result will be … the county hopes … an iconic restaurant for Los Angeles and Will Rogers State Beach that could attract repeat local business as well as being a tourist attraction.
How all this will affect overcrowded the Pacific Coast Highway … unknown.
