101º Expected In Woodland Hills, As Fall-Like Heat And Santa Anas Forecast
The heat is going to be worse than first predicted.
High temperatures of 85 today … above 90 tomorrow ….in Malibu … on the beach …
Wind Gusts to 40.
Highs of 93 today … 98 tomorrow.
Malibu longtimers know that the hottest days here are not in summer … they are in the fall.
And we are going to have fall-like weather next 3 days.
Santa Anan winds … at times and in places … up to 40 miles per hour.
No marine layer at all … no cooling breezes on the beaches … not much cooling overnight at all.
We are going to see April temperature records fall.
A gigantic high-pressure system is over the eastern pacific and western United States.
That sets up a weak Santa Ana wind pattern … much more typical of October than April.

Covid Surge? Or Wobble In Stats? Worrisome C19 Numbers
It is a hiccup in statistics …. or the start of a new wave?
Coronavirus cases have begun to rise in the Los Angeles area.
Blame it maybe on the highly contagious Omicron subvariant BA.2 … decreased use of masks … and waning immunity.
Way too early right now to say is it is a new surge.
But new Covid 19 cases in L.A. County were up 16% last week over the prior week.
The county is now recording 56 cases per week for every 100,000 residents.
That transmission rate is once again defined as at the “substantial” level..
On the west coast … there is not surge … yet.
But on the east coast … a 40 percent increase in cases this past week.
Karen farrer at LA County calls that alarming.
1.7 million L.A. County residents age 5 and older have not received a single COVID-19 vaccination dose.
Do the math … and the doctors at LA County say unvaccinated people are 11 times more likely to die from COVID-19 than those who were considered fully vaccinated.

‘Crime Tourists’ Botch Burglary In Oak Park
A man from Chile is under arrest in Ventura for committing a “tourist burglary” just over the hill from Malibu.
Alexis Provoste Aranguiz was slugged as he was caught by a homeowner in Oak Park … the area north of the 101 Freeway along Kanan Road.
This guy is a suspected member of a South American Theft Group.
He was caught by a homeowner who found him coming down an interrupt staircase with an armful of jewelry and other loot.
The homeowner tackled the burglar and held him until sheriffs deputies arrived.
The getaway driver sped off and is at large.
The suspect is believed to be a member of a gang from Chile … which sends tams of criminals to the U-S to commit random grab and dash burglaries.
Public Safety Commission Meets At 5 Tonight
In Malibu … the Public Safety Commission meets tonight at 5.
The liaisons from the Malibu Lost Hills Sheriffs Station are scheduled to attend.
This is the change for Malibu residents to sound off on public safety issues … and the sheriff’s office response to issues large and small.
And there are some large issues this month.
Residents have taken to social media to complain about a lack of information about th edeath of a security guard at Trancas Market.
Virtually no news about whether the death of Inge Baumbach was a murder … only a vague assurance that there is no public danger as a result of what may be a crime.
Or may not be a crime … we don’t know.
Baumbach was discovered dead … in the parking lot north of the Vintage Market … eight days ago.
His head and upper body had significant body trauma.
There was a lot of blood, and the victim’s flashlight sat in the blood near his feet.
No official information has been released by the county sheriffs homicide bureau… Which is standard operating procedure during a homicide probe. That standard procedure does very little to satisfy Trancas residence. Last time a murder like this happened near Trancas… About 12 years ago… It took months to find out the slightest details on that one.
It by the way remains unsolved… the suspect is believed to fled to Central America.
Questions are also outstanding about the swarm of minibikes that … for the second time … took over Pacific Coast Highway two weeks ago.
In addition to updates for the local sheriffs department… The public safety commission is agendas to pick determined assignments for the next year.
The public safety commission meeting starts at 5 PM… On the zoom platform.

Crime Stats For Santa Monica Were Cooked And We Fell For It
Would you buy a home security system from a company that basically lies???
We told you last week about a study by some web site that ranked Santa Monica just behind Compton … as one of the most unsafe cities in California.
The methodology behind that survey was terrible.
Even the authors now admit it was poorly done.
Some outfit called safewise dot com guaranteed clicks and headlines … when it crunched FBI crime statistics and population counts … and published its rankings.
Turns out … stepwise dot com is an internet page devoted to selling home alarm systems.
Santa Monica officials immediately smelled a rat.
Turns out … the study used Santa Monica’s permanent population of 93 thousand … but ignored the fact a minimum of 250 thousand people are in the city every day working … or going to the beach.
The City, the Santa Monica Police Department, the Santa Monica Police Officers Association and City Councilmember Christine Parra all criticized SafeWise.com’s publicity game.
SafeWise acknowledges that the methodology may be skewed … as it fails to factor in large commuter populations, or college campuses.
Councilmember Christine Parra told the Santa Monica Daily Press she questions a ‘safety’ report coming from a company that makes money this way.
The company collects commissions by dangling clickbait … readers click on security systems … and that’s how the internet economy works.
“In Santa Monica, crime has been on the decline for the last three years, with the violent crime rate going from 8.6 incidents per 1,000 residents in our 2020 report to 6 incidents per 1,000 residents in the last year…” Parra told the Daily Press.

Malibu Chicken Shack Lays Eggs, Kook Coop Hatches
This should be as popular as a sewage spill for local surfers.
Some entrepreneurs have set up a storefront office near Malibu Pier … built some lockers to store surfboards … installed showers and declared themselves to be open as the Travelers Surf Club outlet in Malibu.
Their promotional blurb says “the club has unparalleled amenities including surfboard lockers to store boards and gear, hot showers, heated furniture, and a coastal outpost for all your surfing needs.”
The Travelers Surf Club recommends that patrons use motorcycles to beat Malibu traffic… and stash their stuff at the club.
The Malibu outlet is wedged between Malibu Chabad and the Malibu Surf Shack store … near where the chicken grilling place used to be.
How much?
Not cheap.
160 dollars a month.
And for an extra 30 dollars a day … you can use the sister clubs in Santa Cruz or Ventura.
Early local reaction … predictable.
“Fricken club for Barneys” says one guy … using the name Grumpy.
