Malibu is stuck at a very low level of vaccinations.
The latest statistics show Malibu has 58 percent of its residents vaccinated.
Is malibu an antivaxxer hotbed … or is this some sort of statistical anomaly? No answer to that.
But the fact is malibu has been at 58 percent for most of the past few weeks.
The pandemic is still sweeping the Southland … and for the first time … an uptick in the number of cases.
And that leaves the entire population vulnerable … even those who have been vaccinated … for a mutant strain to emerge … a strain of Coronavirus that the vaccine may be powerless to fight.
That’s the message from Doctor Barbara Ferrer …
This particular variant might be twice as easy to transmit as the conventional strain.
123 people confirmed to have been infected with the Delta variant in L.A. County. Of those … 110 were unvaccinated … and three were partially vaccinated.
And 10 of the cases were amongst persons who had been fully vaccinated.
But in those cases … the vaccines apparently throttled the disease’s effects … and none of them needed to go into any hospital.
49 of the 110 Delta variant cases were found among residents of the Antelope Valley cities of Palmdale and Lancaster.
And 14 came from one household.
In Malibu … free vaccinations continue at the CVS drugstore … at Malibu Civic center.
Appointments can be made … but in some cases walk-in vaccinations can be had.
Seniors can get a free ride to get the free shots … by calling City Hall.
Malibu remains stuck at one of the lowest vaccination percentages in the area … especially amongst comparable cities.
Malibu is at 58 percent vaccinated within city limits.
Unincorporated Malibu … outside city limits … it’s 73 percent.
Most of the Westside of LA is between 70 and 80 percent vaccinated.
One area of concern …. both locally and across the state … is law enforcement and firefighters.
Only about half … by some estimates … of local law enforcement officers have chosen to be vaccinated.
Some cities are beginning to talk about requiring vaccinations for public employees who come into close contact with the general public.
San Francisco is the first county to require vaccinations for firefighters and police … a requirement that will kick in once the federal government removes the experimental label from the vaccines.
Some Los Angeles area people are saying that public employees are free to make their own decisions … but so are the employers …
Firefighters or deputies earning an average of 125 thousand dollars a year can choose if they want to work for a government that requires them to protect the public … is the opinion of some.
The University of California system now has changed its policy … and will require everyone on campus to be vaccinated against Covid 19 … including UC police.
