Statewide Pesticide Ban Approved – Maybe – And Sent To Governor

A statewide bill banning the use of rat poison appears to have passed … just before midnight.
The vote in the state Assembly was 53-17 and 9 abstentions.
Assembly Bill 1788 passed The bill passed out of the Senate by a 23-7 vote in the Senate … with 10 not voting.
Of course … the devil is in the details.
We do not yet know how or if the bill was amended late in the session.
As originally drafted … the law would prohibit the use of any second generation anticoagulant rodenticide until the Department of Pesticide Regulation adopts additional restrictions to prevent significant adverse effects to non-target wildlife.
There are also protections for farmers and ranchers.
Again … we are waiting for more details to emerge from Sacramento.
