Save the tests for those who need them.

Thats the new message from the State of California ….

The new rules mark a setback from Governor Gavin Newsom’s plans for anyone, to be tested for the virus in California … including those without symptoms.

The guidelines now have four tiers that prioritize the testing.

Priority one … hospitalized patients with coronavirus symptoms.

Two … people with symptoms but not yet in hospitals.

Three … higher-risk individuals without symptoms.

People like grocery store workers … cops … other essential workers.

Those three categories should get tested.

But it’s the fourth tier … persons without symptoms and without much risk … who are being asked to forego tests.

Officials in Ventura County had been offering both throat tests for active virus and blood sample tests for antibodies.

Those tests had been offered to anyone.

But they are not checking ID.

Tests … both throat cultures and the blood antibody tests … are also being offered by the Malibu Urgent Care Center and Malibu Medical Group.

Los Angeles is inching closer to the highest threat level and an imminent shutdown as dangers posed by the coronavirus continue to loom.

And a growing majority of coronavirus cases in some parts of California is being reported among young adults.

Health officials think birthday parties and graduations may be to blame.

Los Angeles County public health officials yesterday reported the highest single-day count of COVID-19.

Los Angeles County confirmed 4,244 new cases yesterday.

Also … record numbers of hospitalizations since the pandemic hit.

2,103 hospitalizations reported as of Tuesday morning.

The county also reported 73 additional deaths — one of the highest single-day counts reported.

67 cases in Malibu now… that’s up 2.

66 in the Santa Monica mountains area.

The worsening conditions come as California closes many businesses that had been allowed to reopen in May as officials try to slow the outbreaks.

But Los Angeles said that if the trends don’t change soon, even more restrictive measures will be necessary.
